Job Summary:

The Division of Renal Diseases and Hypertension at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus seeks a Research Services Laboratory Sciences Professional to work on preclinical and translational projects in polycystic kidney disease (PKD). PKD is the most common genetic kidney disease worldwide with currently limited therapeutic options to alleviate disease burden. The applicant will perform experiments using genetic mouse models of PKD and drug delivery approaches to study the disease mechanisms of kidney cyst growth. In addition, the applicant will perform preclinical trials that test the therapeutic efficacy of compounds and/or compound delivery methods to alleviate disease severity with the hope for clinical translation. Beyond science, the applicant will learn and utilize a wide variety of molecular and cellular techniques to perform rigorous hypothesis driven research, present research outcomes to scientific communities, and gain experience in running/managing an academic research laboratory.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Using mice as a model system of PKD (mouse colony maintenance, genotyping, blood/urine collection, surgery, dissection, tissue processing and analyzing).
  • Performing molecular/cellular assays (western blots, ELISA assays, qPCRs, cell culture, and flow cytometry) to understand disease mechanism.
  • Run an independent project with opportunities to present and publish the work.
  • Laboratory management (ordering supplies, organizing samples, making solutions).

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

    Qualifications:

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Intermediate Level:
    • Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
      • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.
    • One (1) year professional level research experience in a wet bench laboratory.

    Senior Level:
    • Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
      • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.
    • Two (2) years professional level research experience in a wet bench laboratory.

    Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Master's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
    • Two (2) to Three (3) years of experience in an experimental or wet laboratory.
    • Experience with animal models for the study of diseases.
    • Experience in managing a wet laboratory.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Proficient to advanced knowledge of basic laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques.
    • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
    • Outstanding customer service skills.
    • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.
    • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
    • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information.

    Anticipated Pay Range:

    The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as:

    Intermediate Level: $48,970 - $62,290

    Senior Level: $52,941 - $67,341

    The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
