Job Summary:
This position will support the laboratory of Linda Barlow at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.
Our lab investigates the function of adult stem cells in maintaining the taste system, and the mechanisms of taste disruption associated with chemo- and radiotherapy. The successful candidate will assist with a project aiming to understand the cellular and molecular mechanisms of chemotherapy-induced taste disruption. The hired candidate will perform in vitro culture of taste organoids from both human and mouse tissue and perform experiments involving laboratory mice. The work will require but is not limited to generation of organoids from isolated tissues or cells, sterile culture of cells and organoids, maintenance of mouse colonies, collection of mouse tissue, cryosectioning, immunohistochemistry, gene expression analysis by qRT-PCR and Hybridization Chain Reaction (HCR), fluorescence and confocal microscopy, data collection, entry and analysis, and careful record keeping.
Work Location:
Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Entry Level:
- Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
- A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.
Intermediate Level:
- Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
- A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.
- One (1) year professional level research experience.
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
- One (1) year of tissue culture experience either during or following undergraduate training.
- One (1) to three (3) years of experience in an experimental or wet laboratory.
- Experience with cell culture, RNA processing for qRT-PCR, immunohistochemistry and cryosectioning
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Background knowledge in cell culture, qRT-PCR and immunohistochemistry
- Knowledge of laboratory techniques including safety procedures
- Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
- Demonstrated commitment to advance diversity and inclusion.
- Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
- Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information.
- Basic molecular biology skills.
- Understanding of basic genetics.

Anticipated Pay Range:
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as:
Entry Professional: $45,000
Intermediate Professional $48,970 to $50,000
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
